at the end of the Summer

After I graduated I sent out a large number of resumes and didn't even get any interviews. Later in the Summer my younger brother who was teaching in a fairly remote community changed jobs and was in the process of moving
back to the city. He heard that a temporary position had just opened up in his school (last minute) for a 6 month position. He knew the teacher and that she wasn't planning on coming back to work. (By the way I couldn't apply for his position as we were traveling when his other job offer came through so I wasn't available for any interviews.
So I called the Principal who offered me

an interview and I was hired.

I thought this was great (although I had to be willing to move to a more remote location) - I hadn't wanted to at first so I didn't apply to any districts that were over 4 hours away from the city. Now I live 10 hours away - go figure!

Then our Premier cut funding to kindergarten (the grade I was teaching) and I was out of a position as the school was not able to keep on a full-time teacher for kindergarten (they had a teacher assistant do the job instead).

So I found another 6 month position, this one ended, then I found a 3 month position and I subbed for the month inbetween.

The following year I had 3 job offers from the different schools I had been working in. I took the position that I felt was more likely to be permanent which it was.

Unfortunately in some areas you do have to be willing to move to locations that may be more remote. But I love my location now and am so glad I took the job when it was offered to me.
