how long?

Clip to ScrapBook
Well, let's see:

I graduated in December, 1985, and took a long-term substitute position from April-June, 1996.

In September, 1996, I took a temporary teaching assistant position in September.

The following year,
I subbed for one year.

Then, in September, 1998 I "landed" (lucky me!) afull-time permanent teaching assistant position. (I was in an extremely competitive area with many teacher hopefuls and teacher training colleges and was told that there was much competitiion for the teaching assistant position!)

The teaching assistant position was just a joke. I felt like I was a parole officer,

not a teacher. Teachers of all grade levels just cast all of their problem children my way each day just to get them out of their room for awhile. After three years of doing that, not getting a full-time teaching job, and landing myself in the emergency room one school day because of stress, I quit the job. I went back to subbing.

I subbed for six year--from September, 1991-June, 1997. While I subbed, I got a second degree in reading, so that I could make myself more marketable. I came very close, was one of three finalists, for a position as a reading teacher 9 years after I got my original teaching certificate. I continued to interview. I continued to sub. Nothing came up.

Finally, in August, 1997, I moved to Virginia and got my first, full-time teaching position. Whew! I hope you don't have to wait THAT long! I wouldn't wish the waiting and hassles on anybody!

Disgusted with not being able to get
