don't give up
By A.F.

Clip to ScrapBook
I graduated from college with a teacher degree in 1994. I was hired in 1995 as a teacher's aide. I didn't get hired as a teacher until August 2000. I knew one person who subbed for 5 years and worked as a library aide
for another 8 years before they were hired as a teacher. Another person I know waited almost 8 years before he was hired. They, including myself, were considered great protential teachers, but it still took forever to get our own classroom. Keep trying. Getting into the system anywhere should be your gameplan. Work as a teacher's aide, comp. lab aide, sub for the first year if you have
to. Make yourself known as someone who is willing to go that extra mile. Volunteer for extracurricular activities such as the Academic Team, school volunteer programs, athletic teams. Get yourself known then it will be easier to get a job.
