confidence/wish I had an answer

I understand your point about confidence, and I also agree that "being rejected" can harm your self-confidence, but principals often lean towards the confidence issue because they have to be assured that the person they hire
is confident enough to stand up to parents who may question their teaching or discipline styles. They also look for confidence so those teachers can lead committees, give oral presentations, run an assembly, etc. So, unfortunately, confidence or "how you present yourself" during the pressure of an interview is often a deciding factor in whether or not to select a candidate. Unfortunately,
it places many of us in a catch 22 situation--we are nervous at interviews, we can't build our confidence because we haven't had much success in our job search, and we can't get experience teaching (which will help build confidence). I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. All I can suggest is contacting a local career or college placement center that offers mock interviews and videotaping/critiques of interviews to give you more practice. The more confident you become in practice sessions, the more at ease you will be in an interview. Hang in there and try not to get too discouraged.
