Re: Teach America
By Katie

Clip to ScrapBook
Although I dont know much about the program my cousin joined after she graduated from college. She had no experience in education at all but it was something she thought was interesting. She was sent to a "boot camp" for
2 months where she recieved a crash course in education. She was then sent to an area where there is a great need for teachers. She went to Washington D.C. She recieved an emergency certification to teach. I think she had to be there for 2 years, teach in D.C. and then had to be going to school to obtain her masters degree in an area of education, which Teach America paid for or she
recieved a very reduced rate on tution. She really enjoyed it and thought it was a very good experience, but it was very taugh especially in the areas where she was working. I dont know much about what they have you do if you are already a certified teacher. You will have to be willing to work in a very teacher deplited urban area. My roomate was in Americorps this past year, although not in education, and she really enjoyed it. You will have to be willing to relocate and commit to a certain number of years. I am sure that if you use a search engine you can find there website.
Good luck
