The kids who were motivated
After 5 minutes, I would give a quick drill on one particular fact. The kids used a multiplication grid, and if they didn't pass that particular fact, they had to do it again the next day; otherwise, they'd move on to the next fact. I can tell you that this method has been a lifesaver for all of us! The kids have really enjoyed the "Five-minute Flash" and I was very impressed in how they quickly became engaged...they had someone to help and to be helped by. I now have only a few hold-outs...I've noticed that these few kids are using some sort of strategy to figure out the answer on classwork and tests, even though it's taking them longer. I'm ok with that...I know that they will become more fluent as they discover some sort of pattern. We just have to keep being their cheerleaders and, at the same time, hold them accountable. Relying on home support just won't do it for some. LindaR
