Have you gotten a job yet?
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
You can get tired of that question. I heard it a lot, too, except getting a job in the area where I used to live was like getting the Holy Grail. People didn't just assume that you automatically get a job right out of college.
People who did were envied.

If it makes you feel any better, I used to even hear those questions from my own family. When I inteviewed for a position and wouldn't get it, my husband would say something like: Maybe you need to brush up on your interviewing techniques. Or something like that. I got tired of hearing that from family members, however well-meaning they were.

I knew that I wasn't a BAD interviewer; I just lived in an area which was overcrowded with teacher candidates. When you have 1,000 applications per year and only 40 positions available that year, you don't have much of a chance without some sort of connections.

You will need to just learn to ignore those people, as I did. You certainly don't need to explain to them why you still don't have a job.
