rude principals
By Nanci

Clip to ScrapBook
I went through what you did before I got a teaching job. Believe me, the principals aren't all THAT busy! Sure, they have to work on curriculum and stuff like that over the summer, but they report daily to school in a golf
shirt and leave work early.

If it makes you feel any better, I once went to an interview where, of course, I had to look and act professional. The principal who interviewed me looked as if he was ready to leave for the golf course. No jacket, no tie. At least he could have taken the time to have dressed professionally before he met with me. It didn't leave a good impression on

me. It was like saying: I HAVE a job, and I am the principal who is looking down my nose and trying to decide if I want YOU. Therefore, I can dress as I please.

I have had some really bad interviewing experiences, as well. I made an appointment once with an assistant principal to meet with the principal, drove about 30 miles to the school, then was rudely informed that the principal--her highness--was not available to meet with me. Hello? Where's your telephone?

I drove about 30 miles to another interview. I arrived at the office, only to be told that the principal was "sick." He was at school, but he couldn't meet with me. He really "tried" to call me, but...

I went to another interview. The principal, who had no concern about my time at all, made me wait in the waiting room for about 20 minutes before she even led me to her office. I sat down in her office and she sat down on the sofa beside me. She asked me a few questions, then went dashing out the door. She said she'd be "right back." Well, "right back" was something like 20 minutes. I was getting impatient by this time. She came back to the office, made some kind of lame excuse about telephone calls, then resumed the interview. I could not see why the phone calls could not have been held, or why she wasted my time in this way.

I hope others have better interviewing experiences before they get their jobs. Principals should not treat us this way, even though they are in the buying position. I am sorry to sound so sarcastic, but I got tired of the way I was treated.
