heartbroken and defeated
By Carol,yn

Clip to ScrapBook
I basically went through the same situation when I lived in the overglutted teachers' market in Pennsylvania. (We had a teachers' college in town which graduated oodles of teachers.) I knew a woman who didn't want to work
full-time--just sub--and the principal kept offering her a job, which she just kept refusing. I, on the other hand, was very eager to obtain a full-time job and subbed for the same principal she did. I often let him know it.

I tried not to take it personally, and I don't think you should, either. Some principals have very specific types of teachers in mind when they set out to

hire (I have even heard principals say this), and maybe your friend was that type of teacher. Maybe your friend has some sort of "connections" she isn't telling you about. I found out when I was job searching that connections were more important than all of your credentials, including grade point average and recommendations, put together.

If all else fails, and you are open to the idea of relocating, there are great jobs to be had in the Southeast and Southwest. Sometimes you just have to move.

Keep plugging for awhile in your district. I am sure that you will eventually "click" with the right principal and you will be delighted with him/her and the school.
