You can cry on our shoulders
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I read this job seeker site, because I have been through what you have been through. I was depressed. I hated myself. I cried. I hated the teachers who got the jobs. I hated those student teachers who just waltzed into
the classroom after graduation, just because they had a mom or dad or some other relative working in the district, while the rest of us walked the sub treadmill. I hated the comments made to me by my husband, who was really well-meaning. He would say stuff like: "What did you do wrong at the interview?" "Maybe you should brush up on your degree by getting a Master's."

Actually, I

realized that there was nothing WRONG
with me. I just lived in an area which was overglutted with teachers (Eastern PA). Each semester our local teacher's college graduated something like 500 elementary teachers. Okay, 1,000 a year. We had openings, sure, but not for so many. Those who dared to move did so.

I had received a job as a teaching assistant, but I hadn't really wanted to make a life-long career of that. I did eventually get a job, but it was a long, tough road.

I don't want you to feel depressed about this. Don't feel as if you're worthless because you can't get a job right away. Look around you. There are probably many others sharing the same grief you are. Try to keep your head high. Realize that in spite of all, you are good. No, you are the best! Keep that in your heart.

Hey, if all else fails, come on down to NC. My local school district has tons of openings.
