Thanks for the responses. As for location, I can't move far from here because of family commitments and my wife's job, so relocation isn't an option. And I'm already in the most urban part of the state.

I'm probably going
to return to the corporate sector again, even though the thought of that is about as pleasant to me as fingernails on chalkboard. I'm planning to take some courses toward YET another endorsement (gee, how many teaching endorsements equals one coaching certificate? I've got four so far, plus enough credit that I've got a head start on two others...).

I just honestly don't get it,

though... years of experience at a living history museum, internship as the ed. coordinator of a state university museum, authored an activity that's included in the state history curriculum package for teachers, a featured speaker at a seminar for teaching local history held by the state department of cultural affairs, three years of subbing and half a dozen other relevent things I could name... what other qualifications can they possibly want?!? I KNOW I don't blow the interviews - compared to some things I've done interviews are a piece of cake. I don't get nervous, I don't act arrogant, I don't babble incoherently, etc.

I am going to be sending a letter to this last district to ask some questions regarding my interview (what did they think was good/bad, etc) - it'll be interesting to see their reply.

Some people, by the way, might be wondering, "well, why the heck doesn't the guy just break down, bite the bullet and get a coaching endorsement?" Good question. First, I'd make a poor coach - never played any sports in school or ever wanted to play, though I enjoyed watching games. Second, I have no desire whatsoever to coach - period. Third, it's reached a point of pride and principle - if they want me as a teacher, it's going to darn well be because they really honestly want ME as a TEACHER, not because they want me as a coach and I happen to fit a hole in their teaching staff, too. I have no problem at all with those who have a desire to coach - but it should in my opinion never, ever be the deciding factor in who gets the teaching contract.

Ok, I'll stop now - I feel a little better and if I don't stop now I'll keep ranting along this line forever... Thanks again to the support.
