Be honest!
By Lisa

Clip to ScrapBook
Some schools have an idea of what kind of person they want, and this sounds like one of those places. Each school has its own philosophy and its own way of doing things. No teacher will successfully fit in with each school,
or would be happy at every school!

So be honest when you are asked questions. Don't try to fit your answers with what you think is their philosophy. You and the principal need to see if you fit there. Ask questions about things like team planning, character education, standardized test preparation, discipline, and any other topic that is usually determined by the school.

I

had a 45 minute interview where the principal's ONLY concern was whether I fit in with his school and his mission. Never cared about management, parent involvement...just whether I would do things their way. The more we talked, the more I realized even though it was a good school, I wouldn't be happy with how they did things. Fortunately I got another job offer first, at a school where our philosophies obviously matched.

Good luck!
