Clip to ScrapBook
No, I never did any subbing at the school, however, was very involved in my children's classes, parties, PTO, etc. for four years while I worked in a previous professional job, where I had the flexibility in my schedule to
be involved. Last year, I accepted a full time teaching position at a private school in the community, so didn't have the chance to be involved.

I just felt that I had a great rapport with teachers, principal, secretary. I really felt like everyone was pulling for me to get a job at that school. I was quite sure I would get the job.

The whole underlying "bugging me to the limit"

thing is that when I called the principal, he said "you were simply outgunned in experience". Now, I had taught one year of music part time, one year as a gifted and talented specialist part time about 10 years ago, and then had this last year as a 5th grade teacher, full time. (There were two openings at my "dream" school for 5th grade). Then later, I find out that a first year teacher who taught 3rd grade (just out of college a year ago) was offered the job, but didn't accept, because it was one of three offers. And, one of the teachers hired for the 5th grade positions worked part time (I don't know in what area) at that school one year, and was just out of college before that. The other opening was filled by a man teacher, which I understand in some cases can be more desirable. "I am outgunned in experience". Sheesh, I don't think so.

I just don't think I was given the facts. I suppose it is politics.

Incindentally, I do have my job at the private school for next year in 5th grade, my favorite grade, so I have much for which to be thankful. It's hard making it on the salary I get there, but our family made it through last year.

I guess I may try applying again next year, after another year experience under my belt.
