It sounds interesting By Cathy-Dee

It sounds as you said like a great first job experience. I know what it's like to work for administrators who want you in their school, you do tend to get more support. And the fact that he likes first year teachers is| also good. Sometimes though that can also mean that he likes to mold and have more control over his teachers. First year teachers tend to be more willing to please (for upcoming contracts, etc.,). I know I've been there. As far as teaching an older grade, you never know until you've experienced them as to whether you'll enjoy it or not. I thought I'd never teach under grade 3 and I'm | | doing first grade and I love it. But I miss the older kids too at times (especially with things like story writing and novel studies). I know I couldn't teach sixth grade and probably not even fifth grade, except perhaps in your situation with language arts. I like the language arts curriculum myself. What do you think your possibilities are for the other jobs you interviewed for? Worse case, you take this job and you don't like it - most of us can handle a year doing almost anything. Then you could apply out for something in a younger grade next year (perhaps even in this school). Or you may find that you just love this grade level and job and that taking it was the best decision you could have made. It's too bad we can't have hindsight before hand. Good luck with your decision, go with your instinct.
