We have a "meet the Teacher" on our last inservice or workday from 4-5 or 5-6. The parents bring the supplies with the kids. I have out sharpies and the parents or students (depending on the grade level) label everything. I have places around the room for Kleenex, construction paper, notebook paper, glue, scissors, etc....whatever you don't want the kids to have at their desks/tables. This depends on the gr. level as I have taught kinder through 6th grade.

I also have a Student Info sheet I have the parents fill out or take home and send back with the students the first day. It has a place for all info I can get off of the cum cards in the office plus a place to tell me something they want me to know about their child. It is interesting to see what they write and sometimes is it the only correct phone number we have.

I also take pictures of my students with their families. This is the only time I will see some of these parents all year as some never come for conferences, open house, etc. At the end of the year I give the students a card with this picture. If they don't come that night, then I make sure I get a picture the first day of school.
