cover letter

Do not assume they will check the files! I have sat on many interview committees and we do a paper screening first. Since we receive hundreds of applications, we only pull the ones that have a current cover letter, specific to a posted position. I am sure other schools have different policies, but I think it's best to be safe and cover yourself. Also, don't hesitate to call and ask about openings and the status of positions. Good luck!
