Demo Lessons By T.

I had to do a demo lesson last year. I asked the principal about length--mine was set up for 45 minutes, and I can't imagine they would have you go any longer than that! Make sure you have a full lesson plan, with objectives| and assessment included. Give the kids an overview of what you're going to do, and what your expectations for them during the lesson are. (Posting an agenda on the board would be a good way to do this.) Clearly state directions, and have kids repeat them back to you. Circulate around the room while they are working on the activities--don't just hang out at the front. The committee | | wants to see how you interact with children in a whole-class situation, but also one-on-one. Keep an eye on the clock so you can wrap up in your allotted amount of time. Most importantly, be sure to have an activity or two with you that any "early finishers" can work on by themselves while others are finishing up!With my lesson, I got through about 80% of what I had planned--there wasn't quite enough time for the kids to finish the activity, but I had already done the "teaching" part. However, I still got the job! I was really nervous about doing the demo, but once I got up in front of the kids and got going, it was fine! Good luck! --T.
