WHERE IS THE SHORTAGE??? IT'S NOT IN MAINE!!

I would honestly LOVE to know where in the world this shortage is, because where I live in Southern Maine, there are THOUSANDS of applicants for one position! At the elementary level. It is crazy, and sooooo discouraging that there is that much competition, also, pretty much everyone has gone to the same college around here too, so we all are extremely well trained, and we all have the same recommendations, etc. I am so scared that I will not get a job, what will make me different or unique in a pool of thousands!!?? Anybody have any advice??
