job fair
By Chris

Clip to ScrapBook
I, too will be attending a job fair soon where all the school districts in my county will be present. While my kids were in school I became acquainted with the district's personell director through volunteer work and I called
her for advice. She suggested bringing info packets that consisted of a resume, a copy of transcripts (for recent grads w/o a lot of experience)and at least 3 letters of recommendation. My hubby has been to job fairs for the electronic industry and he said that employers usually don't have a lot of time to spend with individuals, so I don't know about the portfolio situation.
Your area may be different from mine. My contact said to make up 20 copies of the packet to hand out. See if you can contact someone from one of the schools or districts that will be present at the fair and ask for advice and find out how many districts will be there so you have an adequate supply.
May I also suggest that you either take a map with you or become VERY familiar with which districts you WANT to work for and which are too far from home. My county is one of the largest in the state and I want to be sure I apply only to school districts with a 30 minute drive. Keep in mind those after school meetings and functions you'll be expected to attend!GoodLuck!
