stress and overwork
By Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
I started giving the standardized math pretest to our first grade. We discussed how to fill in the bubbles for the right answer and what to do if you don't know the right answer. I told them it was ok to guess, that they'd HAVE to guess on many of the questions because these were things first graders were learning and no one expected them to know it all right now. But as we worked our way through the first page one little boy threw down his pencil in disgust and agonized, "I just can't DO this. It's too hard!" So I told him to just guess and he said, "It's just too HARD to guess." What's the world coming to when writing B's and guessing are just too HARD?
