1. Our school district distributes information about grants that are available to teachers in our area.2. The grant application I had to fill out was only two pages long. You are asked to explain what materials you | want for your project and how it will enhance instruction & learning in your classroom. We are asked to show how it relates to our state framework/benchmarks and how it will help us to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners. The final section of the grant is a detailed list of what you want to purchase, the cost, and the vendor. Writing the description and how the project relates | | to the curriculum takes about 30 minutes to an hour. The materials to purchase takes longer, because it's so hard to decide exactly what to request.3. I am getting language and math materials for centers from a company called Primary Concepts. The grammar materials are color coded : nouns are blue, adjectives are red, etc. so they are great for forming sentences and teaching parts of speech. They are also magnetic and I'm getting individual magnetic boards also. I'm also purchasing fiction & non fiction books, videos, & other materials such as binoculars for a thematic unit on birds; and similar materials for a thematic unit on weather. I completed and submitted the grant application last April. I was notified of the award last week.
