spelling "their way"

I had a similar thing happen today. Many of my students are Spanish speaking, so along with learning to read and write they're learning to speak English. We were reading a book about Moms and Dads where "Mom is a police officer. Dad is a builder." etc. When we came to the picture of the animal doctor one little girl told me he was a "bet". No, I corrected, a VVVVVet. So diligently she placed her front teeth over her lip and recreated the sound "vvvvvv Bet." There's no arguing with that!
