the frustrations
By Julie

Clip to ScrapBook
I listen to you young people and think that maybe it's not old age that makes me so tired all of the time. I'm 50 years old and have been teaching for 10 years. I, too, feel exhausted by doing more than my share and
being held accountable for more than I should be. It IS overwhelming, all of those after-school meetings, test preparation, teaching to the test, demands, demands, demands upon your personal time, even.
I know that on Tuesday of this past week I got to school at 7:15 and didn't leave it until 4:30 after having conferences with four parents who couldn't make it to our regular Parent's
Day. I left school, went home to eat dinner at a fast food place, then worked on schoolwork that I didn't have time to finish when I was at school. I finally finished at 9:30, then dropped into bed. The next day I promised myself that I wasn't going to bring home anything. I was just going to take an evening off and sit by the TV.
Sometimes we just have to let the demands go.
