talkative class

Clip to ScrapBook
I too have a good class that is very social. I have found myself getting very frustrated with them more often for the types of things you described. Except for the fact that I teach 2nd grade. I have a reward system that
I use in conjunction with a discipline system. They earn a type of play dollars for our class treasure chest. anyone with at least $5.00 by the end of the day on Friday gets to shop at the treasure chest. Those with less don't get to shop. They earn these dollars by bringing homework back on time, getting a good report from the music teacher, the libraian, or just anything I can think
of to inspire good behavior. If they run out of $$ their name goes on the board and we then work toward the minutes off recess method. I have had very few students get that far. When the whole class will not get quiet I have used the old heads down. I am also not too proud to send one of my students to a lower grade classroom to cool their jets and get a different perspective on things. I usually try to talk to the other teacher in advance, fotunately we have internal email and I can contact another teacher very easily. Support for you from home is also a very important ingredient. Hang in there, my prayers are with you.
