old dogs CAN learn new tricks

Go for it! I started teaching Special Ed in public school at 51 and received my MA at 54. They hired me as golden oldie and haven't fired me yet. Prior to public school, I worked with adults with disabilities, a helping profession like yours. You are as old/young as you think; I only wish I had roller skates sometimes. It might help, while you're in the college mode, to start grad school as soon as you graduate, or at least take the GRE. Have a good ride!
