We have a school-wide sing-along in the morning for about a half hour (small community--we can still "get away" with that) Then we watch "The Polar Express" as a grade level and make the candy trains. (By the way, we were making the candy trains and watching "Rudolph" long before "The Polar Express" was made. Nice of them to make a movie just for us!) Any academic time in the morning all revolves around Christmas--I use worksheets from "Teacher's Helper" magazine for this. We also have two specials that day.

In the afternoon we have a gift exchange and treats and maybe a game or two. I usually read Jan Brett's "Wild Christmas Reindeer", too, and we watch how the border shows each day what toys the elves are making. During the last half hour I sometimes let the kids take down the decorations and help me put them away.

It's a lovely day, despite the noise level and activity. It's one of my favorite days of the year because it one of the few times that we can do fun things guilt-free--kind of like in the "olden" days.
