Hi, Mary! I'm a fourth grade teacher. Please don't take this idiot's comment to heart. Not all upper grade teachers think their students come to them from the womb ready for them... but wouldn't that be nice. Let me preface
my next comment by saying that I don't think I COULD teach K or grade 1. It's incredible work. But, I do get frustrated when I hear people talk about how important it is to keep class sizes low in the primary grades. Last year I had 27 students in my fourth grade. Sometimes I would go almost the whole day before I discoved that a certain quite student was absent. There was no
time for TLC, and one on one, which ALL children need.

If this big mouth thinks that it's "play all day," I wonder why he/she isn't teaching K??!!

P.S. I am rather jealous about the parapro, though. I think that all elementary teachers and students would benefit from such assistance!
