We definitely teach in the same district from your comments. I take comfort in knowing that someone else is frustrated because at least I know that I am not a total idiot! In my school, we have decided to take the words
for our spelling list from the Open Court Series, not the reading series. I am really struggling because I ended up having two different spelling lists this week for the precocious spellers and the "weaker" spellers. Now I will be spending a lot of time on Friday giving 2 spelling tests. It's already bad enough because we have a shorter reading/spelling block than most schools, so it

looks like students won't be learning too much reading on Friday. I wish I knew how to do this better. I am just wondering- what do you do for your spelling/phonics time on the days other than Monday and Friday? Thanks in advance!
