Our school is starting a new behavior management thing (something they've spent caboodles of money on, I'm sure!) where we are handing out school "bucks" for good behavior. They earn $1 a day of the special school money. At the end of the week, if they have $4 (so they could have had one bad day out of the week), they get to go to a treasure chest to get a small prize (doesn't cost any money to them). Every other week, the school store is open and they get to take their money to buy whatever they want. If they like they can spend it all at once or save it-completely up to them. We're also doing popcorn/pizza/ice cream parties at the end of the grading periods and if they would like to go it costs a predetermined amount.

I had to work this into my pre-existing behavior system but it wasn't too hard...I do the card system so if they end the day on the two best colors, they get paid. If they don't have their card on those colors, they don't get paid. Very simple. :) They gave us pre-printed dollar bills that we write on, but we also talked about laminating cardstock money for the same purpose. :)

I teach K so I keep up with the money and making sure everyone has what they're supposed to, but I know some upper level teachers who are doing really neat things with it-making kids keep up with their money in a checkbook style system, budgeting it out, etc...it's kind of cool. :)
