ER--

I know how you feel. I've had one parent jump me at 7:45 in the morning over an assignment that was given to her child by her reading teacher. Apparently, the reading teacher had written the wrong middle name and
the "poor" child was now confused. Of course it's my fault because I didn't tell the other teacher her "real" middle name. Nevermind the fact that the child told the teacher the incorrect name. This same parent also wrote a rather nasty note saying that I wouldn't let her daughter carry her pencil box along with her school supplies back and forth home and therefore the daughter felt
left out because her brother and sisters got to carry their things home. Of course, this was news to me. The child never mentioned it. I sent home an empty pencil box, stating that the supplies will stay at school because I would hate for her to need something to finish an assignment and not have them there.

This just goes to show you that there are ignorant parents all over the country that thrive on getting the best of the teacher. Remember, you have had a LONG day (my open house is this Thursday, so I know the pain!) and any sort of criticism, whether constructive or destructive, would have probably brought about the same reaction. No, we do not get the respect or support that we often need from parents, but I believe that so are so vindictive because they are so insecure about themselves. Who sees the child more during most days -- the teacher or the parent? If that parent feels that you are doing anything to undermind or uplift his/her child, then you will hear from them. Unfortunately, we don't often hear from those who have something positive to say.

Take a long hot, bath; relax; breathe deeply; and get a goodnight's rest. This parent would have been nasty to any person who was the teacher; unfortunately, it happened to be you!

T.
