Restroom
By Amy

Clip to ScrapBook
I quickly learned my first year that going to the restroom was often just an excuse to get out of the classroom. If I let my students to to the restroom on demand, I would have a constant stream of students entering and exiting the classroom! I have found that the following works best for me:
When a student asks to go to the restroom outside of the scheduled restroom break time, I will let him go. It is inevitable that another student will immediately ask to go, so my reply is, "If you really had to go, you would have been the first one to ask!".
It sounds very cheeky but it does put an immediate halt any "domino effect".
