it will be better!

i teach third grade, too! I am not departmentalized, but when I taught 6th grade, I was. Even with sixth graders it took a good three weeks to get them organized and in tune with what was going on. Yet, eventually the
time we spent switching classes didn't take as long and it was not as big of deal everytime we had to change. Don't expect it to flow soooo easily the first few days, but tell yourself that it WILL get better! One thing that I found out that worked was to make sure that the kids weren't rushed when it was time to change. I started getting them ready a good 10 minutes before we were even
suppose to think about changing. That way, they had time to think about everything that they needed, etc. As they got use to changing, I didn't have to give them that extra time, but as the beginning,it really did help.
It will get better! I promise! Hang in there!

ps. we also "practiced" changing classes alot. that also helped!
