I was going to start my magic "e" lessons with my students, but then I realized through talking with them that they really didn't know which letters were vowels (making the rule meaningless to them). Therefore, I planned some vowel identification lessons with them. One thing I did was give each of them a list of names from our class with the vowels listed at top and they had to go through and color in the vowels in each name yellow. I made a little contest out of it by having them look to see who had the most vowels in their name. They loved this! My kids love doing stuff with their names. They're always looking at the names chart in our room. Your kids may already know their vowels, but it may help if they don't.
