We get 10 days (which includes 2 personal days) per year. We can only accumulate 30 days to carry over (but no personal days). We do not cash them in at retirement. If we take an extra personal day, we do have to pay 1/180th of our salary.
Our school has a certain amount budgeted for subs. It does not equal every teacher taking all 10 days off so we are encouraged to be there: most importantly, for the students and also for the good of the school. We have to be a little more involved in the finances of the school since what we spend in one area is then not available in others. I am feeling guilty this year because I have been sick a lot. I have a lot of accrued leave, but I know it's a strain on the school.
