I agree. What the teachers in NC are fighting right now, though, is not so much the lack of respect from the legislators as the decline in pay and benefits. NC is talking about a variety of measures to cut back on benefits and pay. My husband is on the NCAE committee, and the state has a number of unreasonable proposals. One is to have the teachers receive a salary increase, which they should receive anyway, but they want to increase the amount of insurance premiums that teachers pay if this is going to be done. Teachers are already paying a lot for insurance premiums in NC.
