The Yabut Syndrome
By Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
These are people who can't stand to see someone else come up with a new way of doing something. In our house we call this the Yabut Syndrome. I say, "Hey, let's try everyone rotating dinner duty." And my kids (who are
happy not HAVING dinner duty) say, "Yeah, but I have so much homework I just can't be held to a schedule." So I say, "Well, what if you help me plan the meals?" And they say, "Yeah, but I don't know how to cook anything." And so it goes. This kind of thinking keeps people from having to DO anything. And it allows them to do the "I told you so" thing if anything goes wrong. I've never
found a great way to counteract their negativity in meetings like you describe. At home I just say, "Hey, we're going to do it anyway." And then we do, because I am queen at my house...
