I agree, Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
State tests appear to be designed for the middle to upper class. They are not designed for kids such as the ones we teach in low-income schools. Some of my parents can't do the math which I teach in fifth grade, so they
can't begin to help their children at home. My students are the sons and daughters of janitors, gas station workers, factory workers, etc. They will grow up to do the same, most likely. I would like to help them work to the best of their ability, so that if they do want to do more with their lives they can. However, I don't like having the state insist that we are not doing a good job
at teaching our students because they aren't getting the same scores as the kids who are the children of doctors and lawyers. This just isn't going to happen.
