pacing guide By sick of testing

Our district is not doing the curriculum mapping, but something (I think) that is close to it. We are given a "pacing guide" at the beginning of the nine weeks which tells us everything that we are suppose to cover in that nine week period (for reading, language arts, and math) in order to prepare our third graders for the district's nine weeks test. At the end of the year our third graders must pass three "exit" tests (reading, language arts, and math) in order to be promoted to fourth grade. This test also "coorelates," but does not take place of the STATE test that the students take, also. Well, | | our problem is administrators that have not been in the classroom in YEARS make up the pacing guides. No teachers assist! We got our pacing guide two weeks ago. It was crazy! In math, they want us to cover (in the first nine weeks period): addition, subtraction w/borrowing, multiplication 0-5, fractions, probabability, shapes, fractions, and certain sections of geometry, and measurement. I don't know how in the world I can cover ALL of this in nine weeks! Our test scores are given straight to the supert. and principals and then distributed to us each nine week period. WE have been told that if our kids do not pass each section each nine week period, then we are not teaching! I am sorry that this is so long and not really on your topic, but it struck a cord with me. It seems that all they care about is testing! Anyone got any ideas how I can teach all these math concepts in nine weeks? Good Luck! sick of testing
