Sorry to hear you're having such an unpleasant experience however, I too make people sign out my "stuff" because no matter how well meaning you may be the fact is you are human and you will forget to return things. Usually it is no big deal until I need it and then oh no where is it? I can never remember who I loaned it to. Now it's not a problem because I just check my list and go and get my "stuff". Don't take this personally. I do it because I can't remember everything. probably the teachers in your building do it for the same reason...but I think they could have been nicer about having you sign. No reason to be ugly about it.
