Yes, I can believe it. My principal asked that we, the classroom teachers, have our classrooms ready for our parents' night, which was actually the first contractual day back. How were we supposed to have our classrooms ready before the first contractual day unless we came in beforehand? Of couse, we all knew the answer to that question. Come in before the first contractual day. All of the teachers were opposed to this idea of being told that they HAD to come in before their first contractual day. They hadn't minded coming in on their own time when they wanted to. He also told us that we had to have a letter to parents to welcome their children before our first contractual day back. What also was a problem was that he took up all day Monday and Tuesday for staff meetings when school started on Thursday. Not much time to get ready for school. You probably don't want to rock the boat on this one. I don't have much seniority in my present school, either, nor do I have tenure. I allow the "senior" teachers to do the bellyaching. You will just have to do the same.
