I read with my fifth graders an article in our reading book about voting and some little books in our guided reading books about elections. I also read The Kid Who Would Be President to them.

In their stations this week they read some information about the two candidates from Weekly Reader, Time for Kids, and Reading A-Z. I had them fill out a chart about each candidate's stand on different issues that they learned from the articles. We are going to be voting in school so I wanted them to at least reading about the candidates, but honestly, we are done. We will be having no classroom discussions together as I have found that kids at this age just repeat what their parents say and that they really don't understand the issues. I

have told the kids I am an independent, that I think both candidates are admirable men, and that in America I can keep my vote private even to my husband so they should not ask me who I should vote for.
