    Parent's Death
    By tmar

    Clip to ScrapBook
We had a child last year whose mother died during the year after a long battle with cancer. She had been sick for several years with it. The teacher got the family to give her some of the mom's Tshirts, clothes, etc. and she had someone make him and his sister a quilt made from their mom's clothing. We also put a brick in our front garden area (around our flagpole) with her name on it, and the class took up a collection and purchased a star with her name. They had a little ceremony and invited the family to the classroom and gave the children the quilts and the star certificate. It was very emotional, but I think it helped him to know that his classmates were there for him.
