So True
By G.M.

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Julianne:

I am in total agreement with you. I entered the teaching profession last year with a weak "backbone." (By the way, I'm no spring chicken.) I had high expectations for everything and everybody, especially
myself. Things were far less than perfect. I was given a difficult class and experienced a lot of other things that I won't go into here. After 5 months, I handed in my resignation.

I have had months to reflect on my short teaching experience. I have taken a long, honest look.
In short, I have concluded that I need a major attitude change if I want to work in education. Sure, some

people at my former school could use a little adjustment themsleves. But I can only change ME, so I can function in this imperfect world.

At first, I couldn't fathom going back to teaching. But as the months go by, I ache to get back in the classroom. I can barely think of anything else. I am constantly reading materials that will help me be a better teacher. I hope that someone will give me the opportunity to do so in the future. In the meantime, I have decided to sub for this upcoming year because I think it will toughen me up (get that backbone stronger). When I feel I am ready, I will pursue another teaching position.

Thanks very much for your post! It was though you were reading my thoughts!

Perhaps Jacko will reconsider as time goes by. I think we should all keep in mind that he or she was probably very upset when he or she wrote the post. And too, it is a vent board.

Again, thanks so much for your post. I am sure it will help others put things into proper persepctive as well.

Sincerely, G.M.
