I'm with the others By Cathy-Dee

I know a lot of educators across the States and in Canada where I teach. They are strong individuals who when necessary do not hestitate to go on strike or do other actions to make a stand. HOWEVER! Although teaching can| be a difficult job at times, I have also been in other jobs before I decided to go into teaching. Many of my friends are in other fields and the grass is not always greener on the other side. There are many jobs and careers where those who work in them are not respected, have lousy bosses, etc., Jobs like those in law-enforcement, nurses, those in other areas of medicine. Often | | our careers are what we decide to make of them. We can either decide we have a great job, make every effort to do our best, look at the bright side, or we can look for all the negatives, complain, and end up hating our jobs more and more each day. Personally I like to look at the upside of teaching. It does pay better than many jobs out there - secretarial, telephone operators, store clerks, managers of smaller stores or restaurants, etc., You do touch the lives of children and make a difference in their lives and futures. There are parents who appreciate what we do, there are great administrators and colleagues who make it a joy to come to work. We do get nice vacation time throughout the year. And I guess if you can't find enough good things where you teach, then it is better to get out. Negative teachers do not help their students or their school.
