subbing difficulties
By Sharon

Clip to ScrapBook
Thank you all for your support. I am checking into other schools (elementary and highschools) and I am also seeking info about the private schools around here.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you talked about
preparing your students ahead of time in the event of a sub. I find that the teachers who do that often have the better classes.

Thank you so much for the encouragement to go on. You know something, this summer I started on my honor's thesis, with the perfect topic: "Substitute Teaching, the fight for survival and Respect." During the course of my research, I realized I could help

the situtation subs find themselves in (hope to anyway). When I am finally finished (very overwhelming), I want to publish it. In some ways it is a handbook for subs. In others, I expose the problems and offer solutions to fix the problems from the school board level down to the school secretary and the full time teachers. I know in my heart it is something I have to do. My instructors tell me I ought to do educational research as a career and to become a principal verses an English teacher. Whatever my choice in careers I know one thing. No sub will be subjected to the horrors that I have encountered and they will be treated with respect.

Sharon
