Sharon,
I think you picked a particularly troublesome age group to work with. I did my student teaching in a 6th grade inner city school. It was very difficult. I managed, but it was not fun. Since then I have taught
in a variety of situations. None of them was a hard as that 6th grade. Hormomes, adolescent autonomy issues, drugs, lots of disruptions in the early teen years. You might look at choosing a different age group. By high school some of the wild behavior has diminished and students either drop out or get moving. (Well, many of them anyway.) And the little ones in elementary school are
usually much easier to handle. I teach first grade in an inner city school and love it. Give your choices some thought and try to get some experience in much younger or older groups. You may be pleased at the difference.
