I use a system very similar to Tammy's although I number my classroom rules and when my students log an infraction, they log the number of the rule instead of a check. The numbers replace the checks. For example, if rule
#2 is raise your hand and wait to be called on and someone consistently calls out, then next to their name I have them place a 2. The consequences are the exact same ones Tammy has in place, except instead of 2 checks, it would be 2 numbers next to their name. My reason for doing numbers is so when "Susie's" parents call after school and want to know why she lost recess, I can cite the exact
reason by looking in my log book. Sometimes with all the checks, you forget how students got to that point. As an aside, I used to do the checks until I had a difficult parent who wanted to know daily what every single check was for. The number system just created a little more ease for my own management purposes.
