"class lists....oh my"

For the past three years we didn't get our class lists until the first inservice day. Even then it was not a set one. The first year I taught fifth grade I got my list, stayed late, got names on desk...etc. The first day
of school I got a totally different list. None of the kids were the same. I had maybe an hour to try to change name tags, passes, etc. Also are kids find out their teachers the last inservice day before Labor day. Out PTA has an ice cream social and they get a chance to meet the teacher and see the room. Well those kids that I met and felt comfortable had to go to a totally different room

and didn't start the day out on a good foot and neither did I. Last year I got lucky. This year I got my class list last Friday but was told its not perminant it could change. I have 27 kids and I already know most of them because this in coming fifth grade class was the 2nd grade class I taught my first year. I really hope I don't get any more kids or the list doesn't change. Oh well......that's life as a teacher I guess.
