1. I quite often use it for character education. We've made a Ways to Solve a Problem, When I'm Angry (after reading When Sophie gets angry, very, very angry), Good Friends Always. the good thing about them I can have the children re-read them if problems arise later on in the year. 2. I use songs as well. Students write new verses to well-known songs and then compile them into the classbook. Did you ever see a Lassie? Quarter Master's Store, Down By the Bay, Little Green Frog etc. 3. I also made an ABC book patterned from Chris Van Allsburg's The Day the Z was zapped. The kids thought this was hilarious...we had a student named zackary that year so we decided to name it The Day the Z zapped Zackary.
