    Descriptive writing

    I think I would preselect the pictures from magazines. Leave to kids to find something "interesting". If you preselect then you could find pictures that would allow more focus on sight words(color, texture, size), sound words (chirping birds, running water, roaring motors,etc.), smell words, touch and feel or just a couple of those categories. I would also do a simple sample one together and then let them choose from a selection of pictures. To me it would be easier to evaluate them if you use preselected picture as to the student who was able to write the best descriptive sentences. An A paper will include all four senses, a B paper would include three, etc. Hope this helps.
